Cycling from St Kilda to Half moon bay with many stops in between is a great way to explore the beauty of Melbourne’s beaches. The scenic route passes through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Point Ormond Lookout and the colourful Brighton Bathing Boxes. The route allows cyclists to explore nature and enjoy some of Melbourne’s best views. Along the way, you can also stop at various points for lunch or a coffee. This makes it a perfect day out for those who want to get away from the city, hop on a bike and enjoy the most beautiful cycling trip close to Melbourne.
Start in St Kilda
We left St Kilda around 10.00 am to start our cycling trip along the coast. It took us in total around 3 hours to complete including stopping for a lunch. The route is 11km one way on a well paved cycling lane.
Stop 1: Point Ormand Lookout
Point Ormand Lookout offers stunning views of the city from its elevated position. It is one of the best spots to take in the beauty of Melbourne’s skyline. From this vantage point, visitors can admire the stunning architecture, bustling streets and vibrant culture that make up the city.
The lookout also provides a great opportunity to appreciate the beauty of nature with its lush green surroundings and sweeping views of Port Phillip Bay. Whether you are looking for a romantic evening stroll or an adventurous hike, Point Ormand Lookout is sure to provide an unforgettable experience.
Stop 2: Brighton Bathing Boxes
Brighton Bathing Boxes are a must-see sight on Brighton beach. The colourful boxes, lined up neatly along the shoreline, have become an iconic part of the landscape. They offer a unique and beautiful way to enjoy the beach, whether you’re looking for a place to sunbathe or just want to admire the view. With their bright colours and charming designs, these bathing boxes make for an unforgettable experience. They also serve as an iconic reminder of Brighton’s rich history, with some boxes dating back over 100 years!
Stop 3: Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is a stunning beach located in Hampton. It is known for its breathtaking views, shipwreck and unique red cliffs. The Red Bluff Lookout provides a view of the ocean and the HMVS Cerberus, an old warship that was built in 1868, still stands at the entrance of the bay. It is a great spot to take a break from cycling and recharge for your way back. We decided to have some fish and chips at The Cerberus Beach House which was delicious. I my opinion Half Moon Bay is the best beach close to Melbourne; clear water and a clean beach.
I hope you have enjoyed this trip just as much as I did and will rate this as well as the most beautiful cycling trip close to Melbourne!
